Long Beach police arrested four men on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct early Saturday morning after officers dispersed a rowdy group of people in the West End.
A Nassau County Police Department spokesman said that Long Beach police responded to an incident at 4 a.m. at New Hampshire and West Beech streets, in front of Minnesota’s.
“There was a disturbance, and some 4th Precinct units went in to assist,” the spokesman said. “A large crowd was dispersed and Long Beach had a couple of arrests.”
A Long Beach City Court spokesman confirmed that four men were arraigned on Monday in connection with the incident, all on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and other minor violations. They were released on their own recognizance, the court spokesman said.
LBPD Deputy Inspector Bruce Meyer did not return calls for comment, and Long Beach police did not release details of the incident. As the Herald went to press on Wednesday, a spokeswoman for the department said that a press release was being prepared on the incident.
The City Court spokesman said that Eduardo Natal, 26, James Moriarty Jr., and Marlon Jones Guma, all of Long Beach, and Scott Fowler were arraigned on Monday in connection with the incident and appeared before Judge Roy Tepper.
Several people with knowledge of the incident said it occurred in front of Minnesota’s shortly after the restaurant and bar had closed, and that roughly 100 people were gathered on the street. A manager at Minnesota’s did not return calls for comment. Some said that a fight or pushing broke out as some people in the group grew rowdy, and that police were called.
“It definitely required a couple of cops,” said one man who works nearby and who declined to be identified. “It wasn’t a melee, but it turned into a fight, and there were a couple of pushes and the incident got out of hand. Police had to break things up.”
