Police chase ends in Valley Stream

Posted

New York State Police arrested a man they say led them on a chase through the Valley Stream area on Jan. 13. A trooper, stationed eastbound on the parkway near the Franklin Avenue exit in North Valley Stream, observed a black Acura traveling fast in the left lane.

The office attempted the stop the vehicle but the driver, identified as 24-year-old Kennon Knight, of Laurelton, Queens, did not pull over and got off at Exit 17S. According to police, Knight stopped at a red light and the officer pulled beside him and told him to pill over. Knight then went through the red light, headed south on Ocean Avenue and ran several more lights, state police say.

The chase eventually came to an end in Valley Stream when Knight crashed his vehicle at the intersection of Merrick Road and Central Avenue in front of TD Bank. He fled on foot and arrested a block away.

Knight was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful possession of marihuana, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, third-degree fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest.
