The pilot of a privately-owned helicopter was forced to make an emergency water landing near Jones Beach Wednesday afternoon, due to weather conditions, police said.

According to officials, the 64-year-old male pilot landed the aircraft in approximately three feet of water around 4:15 p.m., near Meadow Island, off the Loop Parkway.

NCPD'S Marine 4 unit was able to locate the victim with assistance from the Merrick Fire Department.

"Members from [MFD's] Truck Company responded with Marine 1," according to a Facebook post. "Upon arrival, the crew was faced with shallow water, making it difficult to access the helicopter. Rescue swimmers were deployed to assist NCPD's Marine unit.

"After making contact with the pilot," the post continued, "he was back-boarded and brought to Marine 1 for further medical assistance."

MFD transported the pilot to the Jones Beach Coast Guard Station. He was then transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, including a facial laceration and back and rib pain.

Along with NCPD's Aviation Unit, the Town of Hempstead Bay Constables were also involved in assisting in the rescue operation.

FAA officials are investigating the incident.
