A pedestrian was killed while crossing a busy intersection in Valley Stream early Friday morning. The victim was identified as 69-year-old Suzanne Fairhurst, of Valley Stream.
The accident occurred at about 8 a.m. at Merrick Road and Central Avenue. The woman was crossing Central Avenue when she was struck by a Village of Valley Stream truck that was making a left turn from South Central Avenue to West Merrick Road. According to officials, the driver of the truck, a 27-year-old man, had the green arrow and will not face any charges.
Fairhurst sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead at scene by a Nassau County Advanced Medical Technician.
The vehicle was impounded for safety checks. Following an investigation, the roads were re-opened by 11 a.m.
