Police investigate missing St. Agnes chalice

Nassau County police are looking into a theft at St. Agnes Cathedral between Sept. 22 and Sept. 29, when it was reported.

According to detectives, someone at the cathedral reported that a chalice, used for sacramental wine, was stolen from a closet. Police described the chalice as gold-plated sterling silver, with a crystal node, a platinum cross and an attached woman’s wedding band. It has an inscription, dated 1962, that reads: “Dear Jimmy Love Mom and Dad.” A church official told police that it was last seen on Sept. 22.
