Police seek 3 in home heist

Posted
According to Nassau County 4th Precinct detectives, the homeowner and a friend had just returned to his residence when he saw two white men and one black man run out his front door. The men fled on foot in separate directions. Police said they had entered through an unlocked window at around 9 p.m.
Along with the overhead search, police used a dog from the canine unit and, armed with flashlights, peered into backyards and between houses, looking for any sign of the men. Police cars patrolled the area, some shining beams of light into dark corners.
"I didn't hear anything," said a man who answered the door across the street from the house that was broken into, but did not give his name. "But this is why you see my door locked now."
Another neighbor, who also declined to be identified, said that she is more vigilant now about leaving windows and doors open, even when she is at home. "It's scary," she said. "It's summertime, and we like to leave the windows open, but not if we have to worry about this sort of thing."
The investigation was continuing, according to police, and no arrests had been made as of Wednesday, when the Herald went to press. Police offered no information on the homeowner's loss from the burglary.
Detectives ask anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
