Crime Stoppers and Nassau County police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the man in the photos at right, who is believed to have a connection with a grand larceny that took place on Jan. 29 in South Hempstead.
According to police, at about 10 that evening, a 64-year-old man was driving north on Central Avenue when he noticed a vehicle following behind, repeatedly flashing its high beam headlights.
The victim stopped his car and was approached by a black man, believed to be approximately 5’10”, who identified himself as a police officer. He requested the victim’s identification, registration and insurance papers, and told him to turn off the ignition and place the keys on the roof of his car.
When the victim produced his wallet, the subject grabbed it and fled in his vehicle, which detectives believe is pictured at right. According to police, the suspect later used the victim’s credit cards to make purchases and cash withdrawals at multiple ATMs.
Anyone who can identify this subject, or with information about this crime, is asked to call the toll-free hotline 1-800-244-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.
