The Andrew Fatscher American Legion Post 854 of Valley Stream held an important annual event on Saturday, June 23, installing its new officers and thanking those who've led them for the previous year.
Outgoing Commander Richie O'Hara was full of praise for all those members and officers who joined with him in the management of the Post and helped him guide the organization through his successful term as Commander.
George Schuchman, a long time member and officer of the Post, was installed to the highest Post rank, Commander, and said he looked forward to his leadership role with humility and enthusiasm.
Other officers installed were Vice Commander Helen Cardona, Vice Commander Kevin Lawlor, Vice Commander Michael Glick, Treasurer Ronald Sabo, Adjutant Walter F. Lawlor Sr., Sergeant-at-Arms Ken Mittwoch and Chaplain James Towell.
Division Commander Reginald Butt swore in the new officers.
After the swearing-in ceremonies of the Post officers and the Ladies Auxiliary officers, there was a fine buffet dinner, music and dancing.
On hand for the occasion were Mayor Ed Cahill, Village Trustee Joanne Antun, Deputy Mayor Guido Cirenza, Town Councilman James Darcy and Town Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin.
