High School juniors and seniors had East Rockaway looking more like a Hollywood red carpet as they gathered on June 22 at the waterfront district to strut their stuff and have pre-prom photos taken.
Mayor Bruno Romano and the East Rockaway Board of Trustees hosted the waterfront event as a way to give the graduates, their families and the community a safe and beautiful place to take photographs, and allow residents to be a part of this unforgettable evening. There was a huge turnout on the sunny, humid day as people watched the couples walk down the waterfront to a roar of applause.
Local organizations sponsored the event, which turned it into an opportunity to pay it forward — attendees were encouraged make a donation in exchange for a bracelet for a local teen, Devin Ralph, who was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. There was also a space designated to sign up to become an organ donor — somethat that saved the life of Taylor Clarke, an East Rockaway High School graduate who underwent heart transplant surgery recently.
