Pride Day on the way

Posted
Spearheaded by resident and former town supervisor Gregory Peterson about a decade ago, the event is free and the public is invited to attend and enjoy a day filled with activities, demonstrations and games.
A jazz ensemble will be on hand to provide music, and over 50 businesses and local organizations are set to participate. The merchants have been invited to set up tables and donate free goods or sponsor activities, in exchange for the opportunity to tell those in attendance what they are all about.
Anticipating large crowds and limited parking, a shuttle bus will pick up resident throughout the day at nearby Veterans Memorial Park and drop them off at Speno. As they have in the past, the East Meadow Kiwanis Club will be giving out hot dogs during the event, while Pietro's Pizza will supply hundreds of slices of free pizza.
Alan Beinhacker, co-chairman of Pride Day along with Sal Napolitano, stressed that the organizations planning to set up tables should get to the park by 8 a.m. Dunkin Donuts and Bagelicious are donating free breakfast to all the early risers. For more information, call Beinhacker at (516) 396-5210.
Owing to Speno Park's busy schedule, there will be no rain date for East Meadow Community Pride Day. Foul weather forced the cancellation of last year's event. The current forecast for Saturday, June 8 is sunny, with temperatures in the mid-70s.
