Leslie is the medical director and Deborah is a behavioral therapist and the program director. Leslie is an internist and board certified in nutrition support. Together with their staff they offer a medically-supervised weight-loss program. "We help people to stick to the program," Deborah says. "The goal of the program is to get them off the program."
When someone first comes in, "We give them a comprehensive medical exam," Deborah explains. People are checked to see if they have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, are pre-diabetic or diabetic. They are also given a cardiogram to make sure their heart is healthy.
Sometimes, a diabetic will come into the program insulin dependent and, as a result of the program, eventually will be able to come off insulin and onto oral medication. "We can put them off medication," Deborah says.
People with high cholesterol or high blood pressure are prescribed medication. "We take them off medication as they're losing weight," Deborah says.
"We do more than put people on a diet," she continues. "We offer food for people. We have snacks, side dishes, food and supplements." This is especially important for people who don't like to prepare meals.
The Diet MedCenter is not an impersonal national chain weight-loss center; personal service is its hallmark.
Those who want to lose weight come in once a week and meet with a nutritionist. Sessions are private and one-on-one. "We know all our patients," Deborah says. "We know when they are going on vacation or taking a trip. We know everybody, every patient. We are small and friendly."
The Diet Med Center also takes most medical insurance, so the only thing people have to pay for out-of-pocket is the food the Center offers.
So, if your looking to shed those extra pounds in time for summer, give Deborah and Leslie a call. They're ready to help.
