George Nikias had been replacing windows and installing doors since 1984, "doing it out of my house and subcontracting."
About a month ago, he took all the experience he had gained over the years and sestablished S & G Windows & Doors Corp. "It wasn't until recently that I decided to do it for myself," he said.
"We have fair prices," Nikias said. Windows start at $179 and doors at $449. S & G has sliding doors, storm doors, basement windows, casement windows, sliding windows, bay windows, bow windows, leaders, gutters and vinyl siding.
And get this. With 10 or more windows installed, you get a free, 5,000 BTU air conditioner. When an entire house gets vinyl siding, leaders and gutters are provided for free. Do the whole house in vinyl siding and buy 10 or more windows, and what you get free is a storm door. Also, "when a customer buys a door or a window from us, installation is included in the cost," Nikias said.
He chooses to work in the trenches himself, instead of sitting in a dark, cool room sending out orders through walkie-talkies and an overcomplicated intercom system. "I'm in and out. I do a lot of the installation myself," Nikias said.
He does have some helpers, though. "I would say it's a family-owned business," he said, "since everyone is related."
When asked why a person should pick S & G over a competitor, Nikias replied simply: "We're the best." Then he elaborated. "I have experience and we provide good service. And we're very friendly with the customers."
S & G Windows & Doors is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10-5 Saturday. Closed Sunday.
