Once, in darker days, computer illiteracy was a plague. But through awareness and education, this disease was fought until it almost disappeared. Of course, there are still random cases of computer illiteracy here and there, but today there is a cure: Family Fun Computer Classes.
At Family Fun Computer Classes, computer lessons are taught to children and adults. Owner Mariano Enriquez works well at inoculating people against computer illiteracy, and at an early age. He said, "We start teaching kids from 2 1/2 and up, as well as adults."
The classes are designed to provide a variety of learning experiences. "We have almost all the programs," Enriquez said. "We teach Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MP3, among others. We also teach people how to use the Internet."
The classes are small. "There are three to four people in each class," Enriquez said. "The course is eight weeks long and the classes are once a week. For the adults, we have classes up until 7 [o'clock] to accommodate their work schedule. "Classes for kids are $136 for 45 minutes a lesson. Classes for adults are one hour for $160."
For children, there are three levels: Mouse Master 1, 2 and 3. At the end of it, the children get a certificate. Despite their young age, even the tiniest of Tims can be a superb point-and-clicker. "Sometimes I'm surprised myself," Enriquez marveled. "You would think that a 2 1/2-year-old wouldn't know much, but they learn very quickly how to operate programs and get on the Internet. They become very familiar with the mouse."
There are also trial classes, to make sure kids and even adults are ready to learn. "The adults will come in, say what they want to be taught. If they want to know how to make a presentation, then we teach them that. If they want to know how to use the Internet or any of the Microsoft programs, then that's what we try to teach them. The classes are tailored for everyone's needs, depending on their level of experience," Enriquez said.
Family Fun Computer Classes does its part to stamp out the dreaded computer illiteracy, but it's up to you to take your young ones there for the preventive cure at the earliest age possible.
