The new technology is particularly handy for those who are concerned about airplane noise and whether air traffic is too concentrated over one neighborhood. The program will give them information on altitude and flight path, providing them with strong ammunition in
lodging complaints with authorities about airplane noise.
In recent weeks, some residents have complained that airplane noise has worsened.
This means at 2 a.m., when a plane is flying over your home and waking you up, you can go online and check it out, said Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan).
The program, called Airport Monitor, was the center of discussion for several local members of Congress at Laguardia Airport during a press conference on Monday, July 22. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola), who attended the conference, said she intended to get the appropriation needed to start this program.
The service would use private radar, owned by Megadata, to tap into the Federal Aviation Administration
