The two-story structure was under renovation and unoccupied, and no one was injured. Firefighters responding to the initial call at 12:01 a.m. found the building fully engulfed, with flames shooting out of a first-floor window. According to Fire Chief Michael Lapkowski, by 12:12 a.m. the house had collapsed.
Neighboring buildings - 99 Brower Ave., the house next door to the north, and an unattached garage just south of the fire - were damaged, as were cars and vans parked in adjacent driveways. Firefighters from Lakeview, East Rockaway and Lynbrook also responded to the alarm. According to Lapkowski, the Nassau County Fire Marshal's office and the Nassau County Arson/Bomb Squad are investigating the cause of the blaze, which he said will be difficult to determine because of the extensive damage.
