Randy Shotland named Merchant of the Year

Shotland, the business group's vice president, is also co-chairman of its Fall Festival and its networking meetings.
Shotland is in the financial service industry, working for New York Life. His philosophy is simple: "Do what is right for the client." Shotland maintains an office in Merrick, as well as a three-room suite at the New York Life building in Melville. His areas of expertise include benefit packages, financial and estate planning, retirement planning, life insurance, health insurance and long-term care insurance.
Shotland was born and raised in Merrick. His mother had a women's apparel store on Merrick Avenue in the 1960s, and his father was an apparel manufacturer in new York City. He went through the Merrick School District and was in the first graduating class of Kennedy High School in 1969. After high school, he went on to Pace University, where he received his bachelor's in business management.
He has been married to his wife, Shelley, for 34 years. She is a remedial math teacher. His daughter, Stacey, is a nursing home administrator. His son, Ross, is a recent graduate of the University of Buffalo and plans to pursue a career in music marketing and management.
