Community Events
Street festival. The Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores' 22nd annual Bellmore Family Street Festival will take place at the Bellmore railroad station on Sunrise Highway on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 11a.m to 11p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m, with carnival rides from 6 p.m. on Thursday. Sept. 25, and running all weekend. A special character parade will start at noon Saturday and Sunday. Festivities for the whole family will include more than 130 exhibits and attractions featuring a kids expo, crafts fair, military expo, healthy and safety expo, business expo, sports expo, and information and technology expo. Autumn yard sale. The Wantagh Preservation Society will hold its annual autumn yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 27 (raindate Sunday, Sept. 28), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the museum grounds, 1700 Wantagh Ave. in Wantagh. Chapter anniversary. The Neptune Chapter No. 847 Order of the Eastern Star will celebrate its 70th anniversary this year, back in Bellmore, at its new location, the Parish Hall of St. Mark the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 1692 Bellmore Ave. A celebration is planned for Friday, Oct. 3. Annual bazaar. The Bellmore Senior Center, at 2000 Bellmore Ave., will hold its annual bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. An assortment of items for all members of the family will be offered, including handmade arts and crafts. Prevention open house. North Bellmore's bravest will host the annual North Bellmore Fire Prevention Open House on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Bellmore Fire Station No. 1 at 1550 Newbridge Road, across from Newbridge Road School. 'Visiting' theater. The Lantern Theatre will present "Visiting Mr. Green" on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. The story begins as a comedy about two men who resent being in the same room together, and it turns into a poignant drama as they get to know each other.
