He loved life and died Sept. 11 trying to save others
Friends and family remember firefighter Adam Rand of Bellmore as a hero dedicated to his profession. They also say he was a funny, funny man who savored life.
Mr. Rand was among the 350 New York City firefighters and 6,000 people who were lost in terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center Sept. 11.
"He was always pulling off pranks," said Capt. Dennis Murphy, of Bellmore, Mr. Rand's commander in New York City Squad 288, a special-operations unit in Maspeth, Queens. "He caught people by surprise putting things over doorways or in people's lockers. He was a really funny guy."
