Schiffman and her best friend, Carol Kestenbaum of Bellmore, were gunned down in February 2005 in Tempe, Ariz. Schiffman, a journalism major at the University of Maryland, had gone to the University of Arizona to visit Kestenbaum. Schiffman's parents, Ron and Cheryl, at right, recently created the Nicole Schiffman Foundation to raise money for groups like the Long Island Crisis Center in Bellmore.
