      Nine-Eleven brings a greater
appreciation for what the brave men and women of this country have sacrificed to keep our country safe and democratic. The parade is an opportunity for the people to show they understand and appreciate these sacrifices, said Anthony Marino, adjutant of American Legion Post 44 in Malverne.
All three parades will take place on Monday, May 27. Malverne's parade will start at 11 a.m. with a ceremony at the gazebo in Reese Park. The parade will then head west on Church Street and continue to make its way through the village. The grand marshal leading the parade will be the Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Anthony Michela. The guest speaker for the ceremony will be Gerry Torma of the American Legion Post 44.
The Lynbrook parade will start at Charles Street and Merrick Road at 9:30 a.m. and wind its way through the village on the same route as last year. The honorary grand marshal this year is Frank Tosner, whose wife, Eileen, was killed in the shooting at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church on March 12.
In East Rockaway, the parade will begin at 10 a.m. with marchers lining up in front of the V.F.W. on Main Street and on Lawson and Waldo Avenues. The guest speaker will be East Rockaway Deputy Mayor Joseph Carrigan. There will also be an interfaith service at 8 a.m. that morning at St. Raymond's R.C. Church.
      Residents are encouraged to come
out and support the parades. It's the patriotic thing to do, said Jack Gordon, a
member of the Lynbrook American Legion Post 335 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2307.
