Remembering their lost Point Lookout's new eagle flies for loved ones

      The Point Lookout Civic Association dedicated the memorial weather vane and cupola last week in remembrance of the family members and friends who tragically lost their lives on Sept. 11.
      We did it to remember Terence Manning, Joseph Holland and Justin McCarthy, Point Lookout Civic Association president Frank Ryan said. Manning, 41, was a new Point Lookout resident having moved there with his wife and two children, while Holland, 32, and McCarthy, 29 and remembered last fall at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, were relatives of residents of the close-knit community.
      They are with us in spirit, Ryan said. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
      And, while it was a day of remembrance, it was also a day of gratitude. The civic association held tribute to the Lido-Point Lookout Fire Department for their tireless efforts on Sept. 11.
      The dedication ceremony was accompanied by a chorus of children holding hand-made American flags and singing America the Beautiful. While residents admired the new memorial, Brian Crow from the County Armagh Pipettes played Amazing Grace.
Its a terrific thing, given the tragic events, Point Lookout resident Brian Gallagher said. I lost two close friends in the World Trade Center. Its something that will never be forgotten.
      And Doris Cullen agreed as she looked at the memorial.
I think its very nice for the town, she said.
