The skies overhead the Long Island Federal Courthouse in Central Islip were gray and smoky on Friday, as embattled Rep. George Santos made his second appearance to address a multitude of charges being waged against him. Looking subdued and meek in a mismatched gray suit and bright red tie, Santos only addressed District Judge Joanna Seybert twice, with a tentative “Yes, your Honor.”

Ryan Harris, the lead prosecutor, informed Seybert that the government has 86,000 pages of documents to substantiate their case, and that he had provided them to Joseph Murray, Santos’ attorney. Murray, who said he had been working closely with the prosecution, asked Seybert for additional time to review the documents requesting the next court date be at the end of August. She agreed to do so, scheduling Santos' next appearance for Sept. 7 at noon.

Santos declined to address the press following the hearing walking with his head down to a parked car. Furious constituents called for his resignation while holding signs that read, “George Santos lied to us.”
