Residents' Party Taps Sullivan

Sullivan is a lifelong resident of the village. She attended Hewitt and St. Agnes elementary schools and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. She was active in the St. Agnes CYO, the Girl Scouts and the RVC Soccer Club.
She has a degree in government and urban affairs from Manhattan College, and as a licensed securities broker she worked for both Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley. Sullivan was most recently an assistant vice president in the Equity Capital Markets Division of Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette. She has since left the corporate world to raise her children.
"Rockville Centre government has a solemn duty to listen to the residents," Sullivan said. "My job as president of Residents' Voice has been to ensure that our community was fully informed about issues directly affecting us, both positively and negatively."
According to an April 21 news release from the party, its future plan for village affairs includes the following goals:
n Repeal the January 2003 law that allows multi-family apartments in the business districts.
n Work with residents to develop and implement a "master plan" for Rockville Centre to control future re-development.
n Tighten residential restrictions to avoid knock-downs and the development of oversized houses on undersized lots.
n Enhance downtown parking and preserve the character of the village.
n Beautify Rockville Centre's downtown, including the Sunrise Highway corridor.
n Institute a tree-preservation ordinance.
n Make village board meetings available to all residents for downloading from the village Web site.
"For years I have been profoundly impressed by Suzanne's dedication, hard work, and commitment to keeping Rockville Centre the beautiful community we all love," said village trustee and Residents' Voice Party member Jeanne Farnan Mulry. "... Suzanne has taken up the challenge to include and inform residents regarding all civic issues."
"I applaud Suzanne for stepping up to the plate and getting actively involved in local village government," said fellow party member Andrew Karamouzis, also a village trustee. "Suzanne will be a tremendous asset to the village - she is enthusiastic and dedicated and will bring a practical, common-sense perspective to the village boara"
Sullivan lives on Rockville Avenue with her husband, Rob, an electrical engineer, and their three children, Robert, Caitlin and Patrick. She is an active member of the St. Agnes Mothers' Club, a coach of the St. Agnes CYO swim team and a soccer coach. Her children attend the St. Agnes Cathedral School and United Nursery School.
Sullivan's parents, Joan and Edward Murphy, have lived in Rockville Centre since they married in 1963. Her father is a lifelong resident - her paternal grandparents moved to the village in the late 1920s.
"If elected as a trustee, I will work diligently to continue to keep our government open, to encourage enthusiastic participation and maintain a solution-oriented atmosphere, allowing residents to voice their concerns," Sullivan said. "Rockville Centre is a very special place. I promise to continue to work together with our neighbors to maintain the characteristics that make it so special."
Mayor Eugene Murray declined to comment on the Residents' Voice nomination. He indicated, however, that his party, Home Rule, will be making its candidate selection in the next week.
