At the finale of the June 4 and 5 contest, Levison finished eighth in New York for Class II. The five-event race -- 100-meter high hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, 800-meter run -- was held over two days, to provide the athletes with an appropriate rest period.
"She was improving, but she has so much more to improve [in the skill events]," East Rockaway track coach Andrew Rinn said. "She needs to refine these areas better, and she will be more successful in the pentathlon."
Previous to last month's state qualifiers, Levison was victorious at the county meet at Mitchel Athletic Complex on May 19 and 20, taking home a first place finish in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, and she was additionally crowned the Class A champion.
With the conclusion of the 2004 track and field season, Levison was triumphant in attaining five East Rockaway records: 100-meter high hurdles, 400-meter run, 400-meter intermediate hurdles, high jump and pentathlon.
"We didn't set out to [break those records]," Rinn said. "We just said, 'lets go do the events and have fun.' I was shocked ... in a positive way."
