According to the Nassau County Police Department, a man entered the Roslyn Savings Bank, at 50 Hempstead Turnpike, at 2:40 p.m. on Monday, May 16, and ordered a teller to hand over money. The teller complied by passing him an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect, described as a black male, about 40, 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a slim build and a mustache, left the bank through a rear door. He was wearing a baseball cap and a light-colored shirt, and carried a black plastic shopping bag.
Police said there were 20 employees and 13 customers in the bank at the time of the robbery. None was injured during the incident.
Detectives scoured the area for much of the afternoon, interviewing tellers and witnesses. As of Monday, May 23, there had been no arrests. Neither police nor bank employees would comment on the amount of money taken. Tellers declined to be interviewed, and referred inquiries to the Roslyn Savings Bank's corporate offices. Calls placed to the corporate offices were not returned.
Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call (800) 244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
