Robert 'Bobby' Hastava, a local businessman and longtime member of the Island Park Fire Department, died on March 22. He was 71.
Hastava was born at South Nassau Communities Hospital on Nov. 13, 1938 and was raised in Island Park, where he lived until he moved to Florida five years ago.
He owned Hastava Real Estate in the village of Island Park with his brother for over 20 years.
He also served in the Navy as a frogman - where he was trained as a combat diver - from 1956-58, said his daughter, Theresa.
Hastava was also a member of the Island Park Fire Department for 25 years, part of its hook and ladder company, as well as the Lions Club.
A memorial service will be held at Jordan's Funeral Home, 302 Long Beach Road in Island Park, on Friday May 7, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Burial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 8 at 10 a.m. at the Rockville Centre Cemetery.
He is survived by his children Theresa Hastava-Aleman and Laurain Jones, and his four grandchildren John, Jaycee, Emily and Steven. He is also survived by his brother Henry "Mickey" Hastava and his two sisters Wanda Allegra and Judy Esposito.
A bench will be named in honor of Hastava at the Island Park beach. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Hastava Memorial Bench Fund. Those who wish to donate can send a check to 147 Long Beach Rd., Island Park, N.Y. 11558.
