Mrs. Scandiffio had served the district for over 18 years. In 1984, she was hired as a substitute teacher's aide, and joined the district's full-time staff in 1985. Over the years, she worked as a special education teacher's aide in Clara H. Carlson and Dutch Broadway Schools. She showed her love for all children by her kind, patient and affectionate manner, and she dedicated her professional career to children with special needs.
Recognized by her peers as a supportive and tireless worker, Scandiffio was elected president of the Elmont Union Free School District's Teacher Aides unit, and held that position for almost as many years as her district service. She was a strong unit leader and sought to assist members in any way she could.
Scandiffio is survived by her husband of 37 years, Anthony, and three children, Anthony Jr., Melissa and Brian, all who attended Dutch Broadway School. The couple has lived in Elmont for 32 years. Scandiffio will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by those who knew her.
