Many of Rockville Centre's 10,000 electric customers were again in the on Wednesday evening as a power outage hit numbers of homes and businesses in the village at 8:45. Power wasn't completely restored until 9:24 p.m.
The cause of the outage was determined to be a misoperation of a relay in LIPA's Ocean Avenue substation. As of 1:30 Thursday afternoon, the transmission system was fully restored to normal operations and Rockville Centre's system was fully inspected and no abnormalities were found.
The outage statistics are as follows: 3,613 customers were without power for 20 minutes, 982 for 27 minutes, 1,249 for 31 minutes, 411 for 32 minutes and 474 for 37 minutes.
