A war hero to anyone familiar with his story, Army Specialist Brendan Marrocco received a $10,000 check on Nov. 8 from the owner of Mid Island Collision on Lakeview Avenue.
Marrocco, who is a quadruple-amputee and the first soldier to lose all four limbs during combat operations in Afghanistan or Iraq, will use the funds from the check to build a specially-equipped home on Staten Island where he will live. The cause is part of the Building Homes for Heroes initiative. Bob Jesberger, the owner of Mid Island Collision, presented the check to Marrocco's father during an afternoon event attended by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano.
Brendan is currently on a waiting list for a double arm transplant. He lost his limbs in 2009 after his armored vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Iraq.
