The Rockville Centre St. Patrick’s Parade Committee chose Thomas A. Glynn, Jr., the owner and manager of Thomas A. Glynn & Son Funeral Home at 20 Lincoln Avenue, Rockville Centre, to be Grand Marshal of the parade.
The parade, scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2013, is in its 17th year. In its first 16 years, the parade has donated over $718,000 to 48 charities.
The kickoff fundraiser for the 2013 parade was held on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. at RJ Daniels.
“Thomas Glynn has been a staunch supporter of the Rockville Centre St. Patrick’s Parade since its inception in 1997,” said Parade Committee President Kathy Schwarting. “His charitable work, his family values, his love of life, his tireless dedication to serving his country, his church and his community reflect the true essence of the Rockville Centre St. Patrick’s Parade and that celebrates both our Irish heritage and our pride in being American.”
Glynn is a lifelong resident of Rockville Centre, born the fourth of six children to the late Thomas Sr. and Madeline Glynn.
After graduating from St. Agnes Elementary School and the Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx, Glynn attended St. John’s University before graduating from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service.
Glynn and his wife, Eileen, were married in 1967 and recently celebrated their 45th anniversary.
“Eileen and I, our five children, their wonderful spouses and our seven cherished grandchildren will be proud to be marching in our best green in the parade to celebrate America’s and Rockville Centre’s Irish heritage,” Glynn said.
Glynn is a life-long parishioner of St. Agnes Cathedral where he serves as a eucharistic minister and lector and where he attends Mass every morning. Tom is also a fourth-degree Knights of Columbus member of the Father Joseph O’Connell Council, and is a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
In addition, Glynn has served the residents of the Village of Rockville Centre as a 51- year member of the Rockville Centre Fire Department, during which time he was elected chief. He was also elected to the Rockville Centre Village Board of Trustees and as Nassau County Legislator for the Fifth District.
