Soccer anniversary fundraiser

Join the RVC Soccer Club this Friday, March 4 at the St. Agnes Parish Center as it celebrates its 40th anniversary and raises funds for the Tighe Field renovation project. For $65 per person before the 4th, and $75 at the door, you will enjoy cocktails, a buffet dinner and music by Jerry & The Newcomers. Friends of the Library used book sale

The annual sale of used books starts this Saturday, March 5 at the Rockville Centre Public Library, 221 N. Village Ave., and runs through March 19. Proceeds are used to support your favorite library programs. The public is invited to come and browse!

Community Events

Tree of Life Yoga

Central Synagogue of Nassau County, 430 DeMott Ave., is sponsoring a spring mini yoga session with evening classes. The classes are open to yoga students of all levels. Members of the community are invited to participate. The series consists of 12 classes,which began this week at 7:30 p.m. The classes are available for $15 a class, or the entire 12-class series is available for $150 — a savings of $30. There is a special introductory offer: for two new students or for a current student bringing a new person, the cost will be $20 for two for any one class. Stroll the Boardwalk

The St. Agnes Mothers’ Club Luncheon and Fashion Show will be held on March 3 at the Garden City Hotel.

Molloy College Film Festival

On March 3 at 5 p.m., the Molloy College Film Festival presents "Exit Through the Gift Shop." Described as a documentary comedy, the film is the work of the brilliant British graffiti artist, Banksy. The screening an d discussion are free and open to the public.

Newcomers Club

Local ladies are invited to joint the Newcomers Club for an evening of pampering at Peter Frank Hair Salon. 197 N. Long Beach Road on March 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. Services include haircuts, coloring, highlights, manicures and make-up. Cost is $10 plus gratuity. Peter Frank tries it best to accommodate requests. To facilitate all requests, please RSVP by Feb. 28 with a list of services you would like in order of preference. There will be light appetizers, punch and giveaways.

Newcomers Club

On March 5 from 1 - 2 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, families are invited to join the Newcomers Club in "Music Together" the cost is $10 per family. Molloy Roundtable Discussion: Let’s All Get Together and Discuss World Citizenship!

On March 6 a 3 p.m., in the Anselma Room of Kellenberg Hall Molloy College presents a free discussion of cultural and religious misconceptions that persist across our shrinking planet. Even with the best intentions, in times of conflict or peace, prejudices persist. With the guidance of skilled moderators, the roundtable discussions will navigate the religious landscape that increasingly characterizes our society’s spiritual diversity. Irish Classes

Molloy College will offer Irish Level 2 classes (for beginners) and Irish Level 3, Part II on multiple Saturdays from 9:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. A fee of $160 for eight classes applies. The classes will run simultaneously. Students will receive reinforcement of skills learned in previous classes as well as instruction designed to increase ability to use and converse. RVC League's St. Patrick's Brunch

Fortnightly Club

On March 15 the Fortnightly Forum Committee will present Mormile Florists' lecture on the choosing and caring of houseplants. The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Methodist Church on Hempstead Avenue. Visitors are welcome.

Nassau Woman's Club

Purim bash

On March 19, Central Synagogue will host a Purim Bash, with a buffet dinner, dancing, costume ball and an original Purim Shpiel. Need homework help? Homework Helpers, a partnership program between the Sandel Senior Center Service Corps and the Rockville Centre Public Library offers help with homework to students in grades 1-6 every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. in the. Children’s Room of the Library. For further details, contact librarians in the Children’s Room at (516) 766-6257.

Visions of Ireland by Jen Marino

Jen Marino is an amateur photographer who has exhibited twice previously at the Rockville Centre Public Library. This display features photos taken in the west and south of Ireland during a visit in October 2010.

Long Island-based photographer Adam Scherer of Adam Jason Photography has been passionately pursuing the art of photography for the past decade. Primarily self-taught, he has capitalized on local workshops, seminars and clubs including the Long Island Photography Meet-up and the School of Visual Arts in New York City to hone his craft. Not limiting himself to one particular style, Scherer explores all types of subjects from nature and landscapes, to fine art and

portraiture.

Scherer’s second exhibit at the library, this consists of fine art flower photography. With close perspectives, unique cropping and a limited area of focus, these unconventional floral portraits offer an almost painterly quality.

New Programs

Some of the newest additions to the Rec Center's exciting line-up of programs include Happy Piano Baby Bounce for infants/toddlers, Mad Science for Pre-K, a Dodgeball league for Middle Schoolers, and Fencing Instruction and BrushStrokes art class for elementary students.

LIT Applications available

Leader in Training Applications are available. This program is for children entering 9th and up in September 2011 who would like to volunteer for the Summer Playground Program from June 28 to Aug. 8. Program fills up very quickly.

Men's Spring Softball

Completed roster with all fees are due this week. Competition is scheduled to begin the week of April 4.

Gymnastics Meets

The center's two competitive Gymnastics Teams, RVC United and RVC Ultimate, will compete in a series of meets against each other and vs. Flips Gymnastics and Great Neck Gymnastics Teams on: Mar. 5, Mar. 12, Mar. 26, April 9, April 30 and May 7, all at 2 p.m. The individual and team championship competitions are set for May 21 and June 12. Spectators are encouraged to come out and support RVC's gymnasts! Admission is free.

Summer Nursery School and Playground

Registration for Summer Nursery School will begin on March 7 for children who will be entering Kindergarten in 2011 or 2012.

Spring Craft Fair and Flea Market

The Rec Center's annual Spring Crafts Fair and Flea Market will be held on March 27 from 9:30 a.m. –

4 p.m. Vendors will be selling an assortment of items from jewelry to woodcrafts, toys and clothing. Free parking and free admission as well.

Registration for Summer Playground and Summer Rec. Programs will begin on March 28 for children entering grades 1-8 in Sept. 2011. Detailed flyers will be available in February.

Long Island African Violet Show

The Long Island African Violet Society hosts its annual flower show the weekend of April 1. Call the Rec.

Game 7 Tee Ball Program

The Game 7 Tee Ball Program is open to children age 5 and 6 who reside in the Incorporated Village of Rockville Centre or within the Rockville Centre school district. League age is determined by the participant's age as of April 30, 2011.

T-Ball is played on the field directly behind the Rec Center. Practices and games will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights beginning in May. Check with the Rec Center about late registration.

Special Needs Program

Connor and Friends will take place on March 13 and 27 from 2:30-4 p.m. This program is staffed by trained recreation center personnel to provide a fun and safe activity environment for children with special needs, including autism and Down Syndrome. AARP Tax Assistance Program:

Representatives from the AARP Tax Assistance Program will be at the Sandel Senior Center every Friday morning from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. You must make an appointment by calling the Sandel Senior Center at (516) 678-9350. This service is available to RVC Seniors who are 60 years of age and older.

Sandel Senior Men’s Club

The club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. for breakfast and business. At 11 a.m., when available, guest speakers discuss topics of interest to men. A variety of trips and programs are scheduled. Check with the center for a schedule.
