People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrest

A 19-year-old man from Yorktown Street, Oceanside was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after an investigation by Rockville Centre anti-crime detectives in Municipal Parking Field 1.

Assaults

A resident of Hempstead Avenue, Rockville Centre reported on Aug. 8 that someone punched him in the face while he was at the corner of Merrick Road and North Park Avenue. He complained of pain and a contusion.

A resident of East Rockaway reported on Aug. 4 that he was punched in the face by someone he knew while he was at R.J. Daniels, 179 Sunrise Highway. He received a broken nose during the fight.

Fatal aided

A 49-year-old Freeport man sustained a fatal injury as a result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident occurred while he was parked in his vehicle at Sunrise Highway and North Forest Avenue.

Larcenies

A manager of Morrissey GMC reported on July 30 that three dealer license plates were stolen.

The next day, a resident of Raymond Street, Rockville Centre reported that his GPS unit was stolen from his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in his driveway overnight.

A resident of Harvard Avenue, Rockville Centre reported on Aug. 1 that a FedEx package was stolen from the front step of his home.

The same day, a resident of Cedar Avenue, Rockville Centre reported that his bicycle was stolen from the Rockville Centre LIRR station where it had been locked during the day.

A Texas resident reported on Aug. 2 that his laptop computer was stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in front of 247 Maple Ave.

The same day, the assistant manager at CVS, 155 Sunrise Highway reported that a woman stole over-the-counter pain relievers and other assorted items with a total value of $123.58.

A resident of Grand Avenue, Rockville Centre reported on Aug. 4 that someone he knew was in possession of his cell phone, which he had lost two weeks earlier in Miceli’s Pizza. The phone was returned to its owner.

On the same day, a resident of Valley Stream told police that two unknown men stole her pocketbook while she was walking on Merrick Road in the vicinity of North Village Avenue. Among the items inside the pocketbook were a camera, $80 and personal papers.

The same day, a resident of Lakeview Avenue, Rockville Centre reported that someone stole a U.S. Postal Service package from in front of her residence.

Also on Aug. 4, a resident of Hewlett reported that someone broke into his vehicle and stole his car stereo while his car was parked in the lot of Bally Fitness, 60 Merrick Road, Rockville Centre.

Investigation

A resident of Merrick Road, Rockville Centre reported on July 31 that he wired $4,067 to a fictitious company to cover alleged tax implications after he was notified he won $100,000 in a letter from England.

Criminal mischief

A storeowner on South Park Avenue, Rockville Centre reported finding a front window broken on Aug. 2.

A resident of Milford Place, Rockville Centre told police on Aug. 5 that someone damaged the front window of his home with a shot from a pellet gun.

That same day, a resident of Valley Stream reported that someone damaged the rear windshield wiper of his vehicle while it was parked on Front Street, Rockville Centre.
