People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrests

A 21-year-old Valley Stream man was arrested on Jan. 26 and charged with attempted petit larceny following a police investigation in Municipal Parking Field 1.

A 27-year-old man from Elmont was arrested on Jan. 26 and charged with criminal possession of stolen property following a police investigation in Municipal Parking Field 1.

A 20-year-old Old Mill Court resident was arrested on Jan. 28 and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon after he allegedly struck and injured two victims with a shovel.

Larcenies

A manager of the CVS Pharmacy on Sunrise Highway reported to police on Jan. 25 that someone stole merchandise valued at approximately $200. The alleged perpetrator was observed fleeing from the scene in a 2010 Toyota.

A resident of Oceanside Road told police on Jan. 26 that someone stole a GPS valued at $300 from his unlocked 2004 GMC that was parked in his driveway. between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m.

A visitor from Wantagh reported to police on Jan. 27 that someone stole a GPS valued at $200 from his 2008 Jeep while it was parked in Municipal Parking Field 8 between 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m..

Forgery

A resident of Syosset told police on Jan. 24 that someone forged paperwork in her name about a contract for a credit card processing machine for her dental office at 176 N. Village Ave.

Fire

A N. Merrick man reported to police on Jan. 27 that his 1999 Ford All Island taxi was stuck in snow at the intersection of N. Village and Lakeview avenues when the engine compartment of the vehicle caught fire. The village fire department responded to the scene and put out the fire.

Unusual incident

A resident of N. Village Avenue reported to police on Jan. 26 that someone used her social security number to open a Best Buy credit card account without her permission.
