Arrests
A 41-year-old resident of Franklin Square was arrested on April 29 and charged with driving while intoxicated and other vehicle traffic law violations after police say he was observed driving across the center divider on Sunrise Highway.
On May 4 at 11:18 p.m., a 26-year-old was arrested on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook. She is charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and operating an unregistered vehicle.
Attempted burglary
An Arden Court resident reported to police on April 26 that she found pry marks on her back door. No entry was made.
Leaving the scene of an auto accident
A Lynbrook taxi driver reported to police on April 30 that a 2001 Chevrolet struck his car while he was waiting for a passenger in Municipal Parking Field 1. The driver of the Chevrolet left the scene and the cab driver followed. He later called 911, and the perpetrator was stopped and arrested by a Nassau County Police officer who charged the motorist with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.
Larcenies
A West Babylon resident told police on April 26 that someone stole his cell phone while he was at Kasey’s Kitchen and Cocktails.
Two 14-year-old East Rockaway residents reported to police on April 27 that someone took their cell phones and a wallet while they played basketball at Centennial Park.
On May 1, an Oceanside resident told police that his 2006 Hyundai was stolen from the parking lot of 7-11 on Merrick Road. The victim said he left his car running while he went into the store. He was issued a traffic ticket for an unattended car.
Criminal mischief
A resident from Islip Terrace reported to police on April 21 that someone threw a rock at his truck and damaged the windshield while he was driving east on Sunrise Highway near N. Forest Avenue.
A pedestrian told police on April 29 that someone broke several windows on Front Street.
Property damage
A Dogwood Lane resident reported to police on April 29 that he found the rear window of his 2000 Ford Explorer broken.
A pedestrian told police on May 1 that a store window on N. Park Avenue was broken.
Graffiti
A resident from Blenheim Court told police on April 22 that someone sprayed painted letters on a sidewalk, a light pole and a street sign.
A Sherman Avenue resident told police on April 24 that someone sprayed graffiti on his child’s basketball backboard. The resident later reported the discovery of additional graffiti on no trespassing signs and a fence opposite his home. A police officer who arrived at the scene found more graffiti on street signs in the area later.
A Broadway resident reported to police on April 25 that someone sprayed graffiti on the base of the walk bridge that crosses Peninsula Boulevard.
Unusual incidents
On April 18, police and fire department units responded to the intersection of Sunrise Highway and N. Oceanside Road, where a container of liquid marked “corrosive” was found. The Nassau County Fire Marshal Hazmat Unit arrived at the scene and determined the liquid wasn’t hazardous. Hazmat personnel removed it from the scene.
A Cumberland Street resident told police on April 25 that someone used two of her credit card numbers to make unauthorized purchases in California.
A resident of Liberty Avenue reported to police on April 29 that someone used his credit card number to make unauthorized purchases.
A Woodmere resident told police on April 29 that someone used his debit card number to make unauthorized purchases. The incidents occurred while he was living on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.
People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.
