People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.
Arrests
Raymond D. Johnson, 26, of Brook St., Hicksville, was arrested on July 13 at 9:35 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and operating an unregistered motor vehicle on Sunrise Hwy.
Alfonso P. Leone, 23, of Terrell Ave., Oceanside was arrested on July 15 at 9:30 a.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic instrument, and criminal use of drug paraphernalia in Municipal Parking Field 26.
Kevin O. Brown, 23, of Willow Avenue, Hempstead was arrested on July 15 at 10:59 p.m. and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle on Hempstead Avenue.
Tiphanie Hylton, 19, of Baldwin was arrested at CVS Pharmacy, 598 Merrick Road on July 17 at 12:12 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and grand larceny after she was found to have stolen over $10,624 of narcotics over an eight-month period from her employer, CVS Pharmacy.
Nilitas Margiellos, 37, of 18th St., West Babylon, was arrested on July 17 at 11:04 p.m. and charged with possession of burglars tools and multiple vehicle and traffic law offenses after he fled when police stopped him for the vehicle traffic law violations. Police said Margiellos had crow bars, gloves, ski masks, two-way radios and flashlights when he was arrested on South Long Beach Rd.
James Laruffa, 59, of East Oxford St., Valley Stream, was arrested on July 17 at 11:04 p.m. and charged with possession of burglars tools. Police said he had crow bars, gloves, ski masks, two-way radios, and flashlights when they arrested him on South Long Beach Rd.
Gerard Camarano, 50, of 155 Ave., Howard Beach, was arrested and charged with possession of burglars tools. According to police, Camarano had of crow bars, gloves, ski masks, two-way radios, and flashlights at the time of his arrest on South Long Beach Rd.
Identity thefts
On July 13 at 9:16 p.m., a Powell Avenue resident reported that a man attempted to withdraw funds from his checking account at a bank in California on July 6.
At 9:30 p.m. on July 18, a South Forest Avenue resident told police that someone opened a credit account with a merchant and purchased items in Maryland on June 28.
The Nassau County Police Department's First Squad is investigating both of these incidents.
Investigation
On July 15 at 10:20 a.m., an employee of Rockville Centre's Electric Department saw bones in the water at the south end of Smith Pond while he was conducting a routine electric service inspection. The bones were removed from the water by the Nassau County Police Department's Marine Bureau and taken to the medical examiner's office where they were determined to be the remains of an animal.
Larcenies
On July 13 at 9:20 a.m. a service customer at Morrissey GMC, 510 Sunrise Hwy, reported the theft of a GPS unit and $100 in cash from his vehicle while it was left for service between July 8 and July 13.
On July 17 at 1:05 p.m. an Arlington Road resident told police that someone removed his wallet, GPS device and cell phone from his unlocked car while it was parked in the driveway overnight.
On July 18 at 10:55 p.m. an East Rockaway resident reported to police that someone damaged his driver's side window and removed the GPS device from his car while it was parked in the parking lot at Friday's Restaurant, 716 Sunrise Hwy.
The Nassau County Police Department's First Squad is investigating these incidents.
