People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrests

David C. Sharkey, 41, of Jefferson Avenue was arrested on Aug. 17 and charged with criminal mischief and harassment following an alleged dispute at his home.

Matthew R. Cellura, 38, of Baldwin Path, Deer Park, was arrested at 1:12 a.m. on Aug. 18 and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, criminal possession of a controlled substance and vehicle traffic law violations after police saw him drive a 2000 Ford on Gateway.

Larcenies

Sometime between Aug. 17 at noon and the next morning at 10, someone reportedly stole a check made payable to the Daily News for $65.44 and newspaper front covers from Jenny’s Stationery, at 197 Brower Ave.

On Aug. 19, a visitor from Cairo, N.Y. told police that his MasterCard had been taken from his vehicle, parked at Best Western, 173 Sunrise Highway, and $461.42 worth of transactions had been made without his permission.

At 3:45 a.m. on Aug. 21, two people reported to police that property including an IPod and a purse was stolen from a vehicle parked in Municipal Parking Field 1 between 1:30 a.m. and 3:45 a.m.

Criminal mischief

On Aug. 16, an employee of the Chase Bank, 10 N. Village Ave., told police that someone damaged the front window of the bank between Aug. 14 at 3 p.m. and Aug. 16 at 7:35 a.m.

On Aug. 16, an employee of the Rockville Centre school district reported to police that someone damaged the playground at Riverside School, 110 Riverside Drive, on over 30 locations between Aug. 13 at noon and Aug. 16 at 9 a.m.

Property damage

On Aug. 18, a Morris Avenue resident told police that between 5:20 p.m. and 5 :50 p.m., the driver side mirror of her 2008 Audi was damaged.

On Aug. 18, a visitor from N. Wantagh reported to police that her 1999 Pontiac was damaged when she drove over a fuel-filler cap protruding from the property which she was at the Gulf gas station, 2 Sunrise Highway.

On Aug. 22, a resident of Bellmore told police that her 2003 Nissan’s passenger front window was damaged while it was parked in the Astoria Federal Bank parking lot at 339 Merrick Road between Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. and the next day at 12:25 a.m.

A resident of Baldwin reported to police on Aug. 21 that her 2008 Buick’s driver side mirror was damaged while it was parked in front of 179 Morris Ave. between Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.

On Aug. 19 a visitor from Seaford told police that someone damaged the bumper of his 2002 Ford while it was parked at 164 N. Village Ave.

On Aug. 17 a resident of Sunrise Highway reported to police that his 2008 Acura was somehow damaged while it was parked in the rear of 242 Sunrise Highway between Aug. 14 at 11:30 p.m. and the next morning at 2 a.m.

Unusual incidents

On Aug. 19 a resident of New York Avenue told police that between Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. and the next morning at 6 a.m., someone withdrew $160 from her Chase bank account without authorization.

On Aug. 16 a S. Forest Avenue resident reported that someone obtained motor vehicle insurance for a car he does not own, using his personal information without permission.

Identity theft

On Aug. 18, a N. Forest Avenue resident told police that someone opened 11 credit card accounts using his personal information and made purchases totaling $10,843 without permission.
