In the past six months, two popular and well-known local eateries suffered major setbacks from fires. While the E & W Greystone Deli and the Pantry Diner are still closed, both are working toward reopening.
According to Jacqueline Waxon, owner of E & W, the deli is making steady progress since the fire six months ago. The general contractor, Tommy McLaughlin of Tom Mac Construction in South Hempstead, has been a friend of Waxon’s husband, William, since childhood. Tim Redeker, McLaughlin’s assistant, has also been working on the renovation.
“The deli has a new layout and design and the patrons will be pleasantly surprised when they stop in,” Waxon said.
She added that Terri Harkins and Lisa Loesch of HarLoe Interiors, as well as Doug Feltkamp, a Rockville Centre painter and business owner, have been instrumental in helping the deli achieve a new look.
The plumbing was completed by Tim Daniels of Tim Daniels Plumbing and heating, another local business owner and resident.
“We are truly blessed residing in such a great community and appreciate the help we have received from these wonderful business owners,” Waxon said. “Our dedicated deli workers, Jayne SanPalo and Antonio Benitez were able to secure other jobs temporarily and are looking forward to returning to us once we are open.”
Though Waxon did not provide a date for the deli’s reopening, she urged village residents to be on the lookout for the grand opening sign in the window.
