Residents on Charles “Chucky” Troici’s sanitation route probably already know the friendly man with the bright smile and quick sense of humor.
But many may not know that this 30-year village employee, who grew up in Rockville Centre, is also known by his co-workers for making every work day more enjoyable and interesting.
Troici has been praised for being extremely reliable and diligent and for acting as a role model for new employees, always emphasizing to them that the residents come first.
He is known for having a close bond with the people on his route, especially the seniors for whom he goes out of his way.
It is not unusual for Troici to bring the empty garbage cans to the back door for the seniors or to take the cans out if the seniors forgot.
On one occasion he invited a resident, whom he felt might be lonely during the holidays, to come celebrate Christmas at his home. Many residents know him by name and ask for him when he is out.
Because of his devotion to the residents and his job and the sense of family that he shares with his co-workers, Troici was named the village’s Employee of the Month for October 2012.
“All of us thank him for his hard work and dedication,” said Village Administrator Keith Spadaro. “Chucky truly demonstrates everything that is great about the employees of Rockville Centre.”
