Top of DeMott Goods and
Services Auction
Central Synagogue, 430 DeMott Ave. will hold a live auction on May 8 at 8:30 p.m. (the preview of goods starts at 7:30 p.m.) along with hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, wine and desserts. Admission is $18. Some of the items that will be auctioned include a country club golf outing, Willie Mays memorabilia, a handcrafted kayak, a Gibson guitar, Yankees/Giants/Jets/Mets tickets, a weekend at a Glen Cove mansion, a window decorating service, a Weber barbeque grill, signed artwork and handmade decorative pillows, throws and scarves. Living with cancer: Yoga and Meditation Class
Join Divine Yoga for restorative yoga and meditation offered in a variety of styles, followed by tea time, on Wednesdays from 12:30 -1:30 p.m at St. Mark’s Church, 200 Hempstead Ave. Counseling and support are also available. Mother’s Day Plant/Gift Sale
and Fair
The United Church of Rockville Centre, 430 Morris Ave, will hold its 18th annual Mother's Day Plant/Gift Sale and Fair on May 8 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.. Featured will be plant flats, potted plants and hanging baskets. There will be the ever popular Granny's attic as well as home baked goods, a cafe, book shop and jewelry table. ‘Night of Song” at Molloy

A run for heartShare
This May 16 will mark the 30th anniversary of the Buckley-Kennedy Race benefitting heartShare Human Services. The 7-mile run/walk/jogathon begins in Marine Park in Brooklyn and ends in Breezy Point at a restaurant called Kennedy's. Race numbers have dwindled in recent years partly due to the fact that many original race participants moved to the suburbs. A number of Rockville Centre residents are originally from the Brooklyn/Rockaway/Breezy Point areas and would want to know that organizers of this event are trying to raise more money than in the recent past. The man who began this event is Jimmy Buckley. Anybody wishing to get more information can www.heartshare.org/run.
Homemakers Achievement Day
The public is invited to attend the annual Rockville Centre Homemakers Achievement Day. This year's event will be held on May 25 at the Recreation Center. As in the past, members’ accomplishments for the past year will be on display from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m..There will also be for refreshments, bake sale and raffles.
Seeking Flea Market vendors
On June 13 Central Synagogue of Nassau County will host a Flea Market as the kickoff event in planned observances of the 75th anniversary of the synagogues founding. Space is available for the sale of all types of crafts and merchandise. In addition to the availability of merchandise, there will be a display of memorabilia of the history of the synagogue and its relation to the growth and development of Rockville Centre. As a result there should be a strong attraction for a large attendance. Vendors from the village and surrounding communities are invited. The cost of space for vendors is $50 per table. Register for Summer Programs
Applications for summer programs: Baseball School, Girls Basketball Clinic, Boys and Girls Lacrosse Camps, RVC Rec “Ultimate Gymnastic School,” Mad Science Camps, Cartoon-Time, Tennis Lessons, Happy Piano Adventure and assorted Gymnastics Clinics are available. Registration for Softball Leagues for men and women and Basketball Leagues for boys and girls in grades 5 and up are being accepted by the Parks and Recreation Dept. during April and May. The Summer Playground Program, in its 56th consecutive year, will be conducted from June 30 through Aug. 12 for residents in grades
1-6 (as of 9/10) and Grades 7 and 8 (as of 9/10). Registration is being accepted for these programs as well. Call the Rec Centre for schedules and fees.
Fall 2010 Nursery School
openings -Young children need the opportunity to interact with their peers in an environment geared to their needs. The Rec Center has it all. Call to make an appointment to visit. Classes being Sept. 13 and follow the same holiday schedule as the public schools. Classes offered are Pre Pre K on four mornings,two afternoons for children entering kindergarten in 2012; and Pre K classes on five mornings and three afternoons for children entering kindergarten in 2011.

Intergenerational picnic
May 28 at noon. All year students from South Side High School and Sandel seniors have enjoyed working together and sharing experiences. This picnic is the culmination of the year’s events. $5 per person.

Special Needs Mass
The Parish of St. Agnes welcomes all to its monthly Mass for special needs children of all ages and their families. The next Mass is on May 22. These Masses are held on Saturdays at 5 p.m. in the Lower Hall of the Msgr. Melton Auditorium which is handicapped accessible.
