A Child's Garden of Verse

The Museum of Rockville Centre, in partnership with Astoria Bank, is offering a free story hour for children ages 3-8 from 10-11 a.m. on Aug. 22 in the garden of the Phillips House, 28 Hempstead Ave. A tour of the museum follows storytime. For information, call (516) 764-7459.

Defensive Driving Class at the Church of the Ascension

A National Safety Council defensive driving course for insurance and point reduction will be given at the Church of the Ascension, 71 North Village Ave. on Sept. 8 from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. For information and to register, call (631) 360-9720. The cost is $45.

Eagle Scout Centennial Parade

Long Island’s Boy Scouts of America will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Eagle Scout Award with a parade and ceremonies on Sept. 8 in the village where, in 1912, Arthur R. Eldred was the first Boy Scout to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. The Theodore Roosevelt Council of the Boy Scouts of America is sponsoring the Eagle Scout Centennial Parade that will step-off at 10 a.m. Units of Long Island Boy Scout Troops, BSA leaders, Eagle Scouts and local officials will march the parade route from Randall Ave. Parking Field 2 to Arthur R. Eldred Park at corner of North Centre Avenue and Parkwood Court where a commemoration ceremony will take place. Casting call: Open audition

for classically-trained dancers

and singers

On Sept. 8 and 9 at 10 a.m. for dancers and 12 p.m. for singers, the Madison Theatre at Molloy College, 1000 Hempstead Ave. will hold a audition for its Family Concert Series Presents …”An Afternoon of Pas De Deux” with the Children’s Orchestra Society (COS) Orchestra. The performance date is Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. The audition is open to classically trained ballet, pointe and jazz dancers ages 15-to-24, both male and female.
