Community Events

RVC Little League registration

All registration will take place at the RVC Recreation Center, 111 N. Oceanside Road on:

Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. -noon

Jan. 13 from 6:30 p.m. -9 p.m. (NOT 9:30). **Late Registration, for an additional $25 fee will take place on Jan.16 from 9a.m.-noon.

Tree of Life Yoga Program

Central Synagogue of Nassau County, 430 DeMott Ave. is sponsoring a winter-mini session, with daytime and evening classes of yoga. The classes are open to yoga students of all levels.The Tree of Life Yoga Program will be offering a series of five classes each on Tuesday evenings, beginning Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday mornings, starting on Jan. 13 at 9:30 a.m. Each series of classes is available for $60 or you may pay as you go for $15 a class. Fortnightly Club meeting

On Jan. 12, Fortnightly will present writing teacher, Martha Kalodkin who will share her knowledge for writing

memoirs. Attendees are asked to bring pen, paper and any examples of memoir writing they may wish to share. The meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Church on Hempstead Avenue.

The Library’s Career Center is now open on Saturdays. Five computers available for your job search needs. All computers are equipped with Win-Way Resume Preparation software, MS Word and Office programs. Internet access and bookmarked job search Web sites. Printing available for resumes and cover letters. Hours of Operation: Mondays 9 a.m.-noon, Tuesdays 1-5 p.m., Wednesdays 6-9 p.m. Also available: one-to-one career counseling Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. by appointment. Simply Stronger Exercise Program

9:30 a.m. For children ages 1-3 years of age and their appropriate adult. Siblings are welcome. Play and learn together and take advantage of community resource professionals on hand to discuss child development, nutrition, speech and language and movement and music. New Program: Connor and Friends

One Sunday a month from 2:30-4 p.m., trained recreation personnel provide a fun and safe activity environment for children with special needs, including autism and Down Syndrome. These playdates, scheduled for Jan. 24, Feb. 28 and March 21, must be reserved with Paul Lawless at MPLawless@verizon.net.

The Rec Center’s winter program begins this week.

The Snowflake Ball

Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. The seniors celebrate the New Year at this festive party.,

Scavenger Hunt

Jan 22 at 1 p.m. Divided into teams, participants will search for treasures on the “Scavenger List.” $4 pp ($8.00 day of event).

Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. Pat Huber of Better Home Health Care will discuss how home care services contribute to the physical, psychological and social needs of clients.

Sandel Senior Men’s Club

The club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. for breakfast and business. At 11 a.m., when available, guest speakers discuss topics of interest to men. A variety of trips and programs are scheduled for July and August.

Lions Recycle

The Sandel Center is now an official drop-off point for used or broken prescription eyeglasses, non-prescription sunglasses, old hearing aids and old cell phones. Donations can be brought in on Monday - Friday from 9 to 5.

Social Work Services

Social Work supervisor Wendy Weinstock, MSW, is available for private consultation on a range of Social Work services such as housing and transportation as well as individual and group counseling. Call Wendy at 516-536-1162 for an appointment.

Religious Events

Special Needs Mass

The Parish of St. Agnes Cathedral welcomes all to its monthly Mass for special needs children of all ages and their families. The next scheduled Mass is on Jan. 23. All of these Masses are held on Saturdays at 5 p.m. in the Lower Hall of the Msgr. Melton Auditorium which is handicapped accessible through the Parish

Center.
