'Cabaret' to play at South Side High School "Cabaret," a musical by Kander and Ebb, first produced in 1966, will run for three performances at South Side High School on March 29, 30 and 31 at 7:30 p.m. A free “sneak preview” for senior citizens takes place on March 28 at 4 p.m. The show is set in Weimar Germany, at the end of the “roaring twenties,” the years immediately preceding the rise of Hitler’s Third Reich. Director Pamela Seiderman wrote, “It is a cautionary tale of what happens when we turn a blind eye to the political landscape of our time.” "Cabaret" tells the story of American novelist Clifford Bradshaw, played by Joey Nizich, who falls in love with English night club entertainer Sally Bowles, portrayed by Taylor Levy. The setting is the decadent nightlife of the “Kit-Kat Club,” presided over by the slick Master of Ceremonies (Justin Wong, in the photo above, with other senior cast members). The carefree world of the night club is juxtaposed against the ominous signs of the rise of Nazism and growing anti-Semitism. Other notable characters include Ernst Ludwig (Harley Yeager), Fraulein Schneider (Lauren Baez), Fraulein Kost (Mairead Koehler), and Herr Schultz (Paul Martino). It will be a great production, with the best cast and production crew that Director of the Arts Dr. Brian Zuar says he’s seen in his eight years in Rockville Centre schools, so reserve tickets early. For ticket information, call (516) 255-8925.

Poised, with a pen Rockville Centre native John Marcoux will return to his hometown on March 26 for a book signing from 7-9 p.m. at Kasey’s Kitchen & Cocktails, 23 North Park Ave. He is the author of “Poised to Pummel,” an illustrated biography of Bruce Lee that he said is a collaboration originating from a conversation with an illustrator in a dog park. Marcoux attended Chaminade High School, graduating in 1988, and went on to William & Mary (’92) and then to Cornell Law School (’95). He has been teaching hot yoga daily at Bikram Yoga Chicago since founding three studios in the Windy City since 2001.
