Twilight house tour

The St. Agnes Mother’s Club will run its Spring Twilight House Tour on May 13 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 the evening of the tour. Central Synagogue's Anniversary Celebration

Central Synagogue will host a 75th Anniversary Celebration on May 14 at 7 p.m. at the temple, 430 DeMott Ave. Buffet dinner/music. They will be honoring past presidents. For further information, call (516) 766-4300.

A Night of Song

Under the direction of Diane Griffin and the Molloy College Music Department, the college will present its 53rd annual “Night of Song” which will include performances by both the Concert Choir and Major Treble on May 14 at 8 p.m. in the Hays Theatre, Wilbur Arts Center,. JCC Anniversary Brunch

Liver transplant fundraiser

Friends and family of Matthew Rosiello, an East Meadow resident, are raising money for the 21-year-old, who faces the tremendous and overwhelming costs for a life-saving liver transplant. A Bowl-A-Thon will be held at Rockville Centre Lanes, 100 Maple Ave. on May 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m. A donation of $25 per person will get them parking, shoe rental, personal pizza or hot dog, free soda, three hours of unlimited bowling, prizes for special pin knockdowns, prize for highest score and for worst score, and the best master of ceremony. There will also be raffles and more. Also, have a chance to meet Frank Tepedino, a former New York Yankee and Brooklyn native, who will sign free autographs for any and all Bowl-a-thon participants.

Broadway hits from bygone eras

Susan Panzarella, Oceanside teacher and caberet singer will perform at the United Church of Rockville Centre, 430 Morris Ave. on May 15. Accompanied by Ken Dyer, the organist/choir director of the Church of The Ascension in Rockville Centre, Panzarella's program will include Broadway musical numbers and hit songs from bygone eras. The evening is sponsored by The Sunday Night Club and is free and open to the public. Dinner will be served (for a nominal charge) at 6 p.m. Call (516) 766-4540 for dinner reservations. Can cook out drop off

Enjoy the Rockville Centre/Lakeview E.O.C.'s May Day Festivities on May 20 from 1-6 p.m. by bringing a can of 8-ounces or more to help feed hungry families on Long Island. The E.O.C. is located at 14 N. Centre Ave.

New Comers' Club

The Rockville Centre New Comers' Club will conclude a successful season of fundraising for the National Transplant Assistance Fund, in the name of our neighbor, Kathy Burns, who is recovering from a Multi Visceral Transplant. The club will wrap up its efforts with an r annual fundraising gala on June 4, at 8 p.m. at the Links Country Club. It is through this Casino Night, that Newcomers’ board members are hopeful to welcome back neighbors from previous years as well as inviting new neighbors alike. The goal of the evening is to raise money one last time for the NTAF, and Kathy Burns. The board has planned an evening worthy of celebration by all who attend with music, cocktails and gambling For more information about this event, the New Comers’ Club, or the NTAF visit www.rvcnewcomersclub.com.

Liszt music festival at St. Agnes

In celebration of the 200th birthday of Franz Liszt, St. Agnes will host a joint concert with the 80-piece South Shore Symphony under the direction of Scott Jackson Wiley, The Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys, The Cathedral Chorale and The Cathedral Schola Cantorum and soloists On May 22 at 7:30 p.m., Michael L. Bower, director of the choirs will also direct the festival. The program will include: Concertato on the German Chorale “Nun Danket Alle Gott,” "Now Thank We All our God," "I Was Glad,""Resurrexit (Christus) Notturno III, " Prelude and Fugue on B.A.C.H. and Symphony in C Major.

Homemakers Achievement Day

The Rockville Centre chapter of the Homemakers will celebrate Achievement Day — May 24 — at the Rockville Centre Recreation Center, 111 N. Oceanside Road at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to view the beautiful work accomplished this past year.

Village Art Club

The Village Art Club will welcome Bob Cariola, whose paintings and sculptures are in many private and public collections and is a recipient of the Tiffany and New York State Council of the Arts grants. Cariola will paint a mixed-media for the club's monthly demonstration and season finale on May 26, at 7 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Rockville Centre Public Library, 221 N. Need homework help? Homework Helpers, a partnership program between the Sandel Senior Center Service Corps and the Rockville Centre Public Library offers help with homework to students in grades 1-6 every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. in the. Children’s Room of the Library. For further details, contact librarians in the Children’s Room at (516) 766-6257.

The Library’s Career Center is open Saturdays. Five computers available for job search needs. All computers are equipped with Win-Way Resume Preparation software, MS Word and Office programs. Gymnastics Shows

The annual gymnastics shows will be held May 25 at 6:30 p.m. and May 26 at 5:15 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available beginning May 23.

Gymnastics Teams

Championships for the Ultimate and United gymnastics teams are May 22 and June 12. An informational meeting for those interested in trying out for the 2011-2012 teams will be held on May 18 at 6:15 p.m. at the Rec.

Aerobic Exercise Classes

Ongoing aerobic exercise classes by Nancy’s Aerobics are being offered on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings beginning at 7. Classes may be paid for by the session and are conducted in the air

Zumba Classes

The Zumba fitness program with Ruth Karhu is offered Thursdays from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. with babysitting available for a fee and Saturdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Pay as you go.

Summer Playground and Middle School Programs

The Rec Center's 57th Summer Playground Program will be held from June 29 through Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at three sites: The Rec Center, Wilson School and Hewitt School, for children in grades 1 to 6 as of September, 2011. Daily activities include athletics, arts and crafts, recreational games and special events all conducted by trained recreation personnel. $467 per person.

For the 16th summer, the Recreation Department will also host a middle school program at Wilson School for those in 7th and 8th grades as of September, 2011. Daily activities include athletics and games; weekly swimming and bowling trips. $533 per person.

The programs are open to all Rockville Centre residents and those who attend Rockville Centre schools. Non-residents may register at Wilson or Hewitt sites only.

Summer Nursery School

Summer classes begin June 27 and run through August 12. This program is for children entering kindergarten in September 2011 and 2012.

Pre-School Summer Activities

Registration is under way for pre-school summer programs. Both the parent and child must purchase Rec Center membership cards.

A six-session program in creative arts and crafts in different media begins June 28 for ages 3 to 5. The fee is $75. Exploring the Arts is a program in dance, music and art, on Thursdays beginning June 30. For ages 3 to 5. The fee is $75. Computer Tots is a six-week program for children 3-to-5-years-old. Classes are offered for 45 minutes for six weeks beginning either July 5 or July 6. Two sessions each day, either 1:15 to 2 p.m. or 2:05 to 2:50. Call (516) 731-3766 for details. Adventures in Art Camp is a series of week-long programs for children ages 4 and 5. The camp meets from 12:30 to 3 p.m. with a different theme each week. The fee is $150 per week. A parent-toddler workshop in art, music, movement and playtime led by certified early childhood specialist Joan Schapiro for parents or caregivers and their 24- to 36-month-old children begins June 29 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. or July 1 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. or from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Six sessions for $87.

Tumble One, Two and Three, introductory gymnastics classes, for children 18 months to 4-years-old and Introduction to Gymnastics for boys and girls ages 4 and 5 (as of July 1, 2011). The fee is $75 for six 45-minute sessions. Call 678-9339 for details. Happy Piano Jungle Adventure, with stories, games, crafts and rhythm activities for children ages 4 and 5, runs Monday through Friday the week of July 18 to 22 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. The fee is $149 for residents.

Youth Summer Programs

Flyers are available and registration is underway for gymnastics and the following programs during the summer 2011: Art Adventure Camp is a series of week-long programs for grades 1 to 5. The camp meets from 12:30 to 4 p.m. with a different theme each week. The fee is $230 per week. Group tennis instruction will be offered on the Nancy Cottrell Memorial Tennis Courts for ages 6 and up on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 28. $75 for five sessions. Mad Science Camp, one-week interactive science activity camps, are offered the weeks of July 5, 11, 18, 25 and August 1, 8 and 15 with a different theme each week. Camps run Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. $230 for each camp. Register online only at www.rvccamps.org.Cartoon-Time classes in cartooning with Dan O’Connor start June 28 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. for ages 8 to 14. The fee is $83 for six sessions plus materials. Happy Piano Jungle Adventure, with stories, games, crafts and rhythm activities for 1st and 2nd graders as of September 2010, runs Monday through Friday the week of July 12 to 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. The fee is $135 for residents. Gymnastic workouts featuring floor exercises, balance beam, vaults and uneven bars for boys and girls in kindergarten as of September 2011 are offered Tuesdays from 1 to 1:45 p.m. or Thursdays 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. Six sessions for $72 beginning June 29 or July 1. Boys and girls in grades 1 to 8 as of September 2011 are Tuesdays or Thursdays 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. beginning June 29 or July 1. Five sessions for $60. Gymnastics Clinics for grades 6 and up and Team Gymnasts are Tuesday and Thursday 4:45-6:15 p.m. Fee: $16 each clinic; $30 for 2 clinics; $112 for entire series of eight. Begins July 6.

Summer Birthday Parties

The Rec Center offers age-appropriate birthday parties to village residents from ages 2 to 12. Parties are offered Monday through Friday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. or 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday parties beginning at 10 a.m. or 12, 2 or 4 p.m. Detailed flyers are available at the Rec Center office or call (516) 678-9338 or 9339.

Summer Instructional Sports Schools

Flyers are available for boys baseball, girls basketball, girls and boys lacrosse, and gymnastics schools during the summer 2010.

The 36th annual baseball school is open from June 27 to July 8 (no class July 5) for boys ages 6 to 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Barasch Field. The school is coordinated by Bob Hirschfield of New York Tech and costs $315 for Rockville Centre residents. A basketball camp for girls grades 3 through 10 is offered August 15 to 19 at the Rec Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fee $255 per person. Lacrosse camp for boys and girls ages 7 to 17 will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Skelos Sports Complex on Peninsula Boulevard. The boys school runs from July 11 to 14 and the girls school is June 27 to 30. Fee $290 per person. The gymnastics school for girls grades 2 through 9 is offered at the Rec Center July 25 to 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. Fee $175 for five sessions for Rockville Centre residents.

Tennis Courts open

The Har-Tru courts adjacent to the Rec Center are open and ready for play. Courts are available seven days a week from 8 a.m. until dusk. Admission is by valid recreation card plus court fees.

Intergenerational Picnic

May 25 at noon. Enjoy a lively afternoon with students from South Side High School. There will be lots of great food and fun. $5 in advance. ($6 at the door)

St. Francis Hospital Community Outreach Program

May 26 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. A brand new, state-of-the-art mobile office will be at the center to provide free health screenings which include a brief cardiac history, and blood pressure and simple blood test for cholesterol and diabetes. Appropriate patient education and referrals are available. For adults 18 and over.

Try Zumba

Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. This Latin-inspired calorie burning dance fitness call is designed to “Party You” into shape.

Sandel Senior Men’s Club

The club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. for breakfast and business. At 11 a.m., when available, guest speakers discuss topics of interest to men. Check with the center for a schedule.
