'Broadway My Street' to play SSMS this Friday, Saturday

The golden era of classic Broadway musicals will come to life and the stage of South Side Middle School will resound with the sights and sounds of Broadway’s most beloved classic hits as the Department of Music and Performing Arts presents its annual fall music revue, “Broadway My Street” this Friday, Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m. and this Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

After two years of delighting audiences with hits from currently running Broadway shows, this revue takes a look back at some of the songs and dances from the greatest hits of seasons past:

“Oliver!,” based on the Charles Dickens classic, is an exuberant look at the trials and tribulations of the orphan, Oliver Twist, and the colorful characters he meets along his journeys. “Consider Yourself,”

“Where Is Love?” and “As Long As He Needs Me” are just some of the selections to be featured.

“Anything Goes,” the 1930’s Cole Porter classic is full of brassy and brazen theatrical characters and musical numbers, all set aboard a luxury cruise ship inhabited by gangsters, millionaires and chorus girls. “It’s DeLovely,” “Friendship” and the rousing title song are highlights.

“The Music Man,” a musical valentine to turn-of-the-century Mid-Western values, and one fast talking con-man, Prof. Harold Hill, is brimming with all-American hits, such as “Gary Indiana,” “The Wells Fargo Wagon” and “76 Trombones.”

And “Hello Dolly!” is perhaps filled with more show stoppers than all the rest, including, “Before the Parade Passes By,” “Elegance, Put On Your Sunday Clothes” and the legendary title song.

A cast of over 50 South Side students, along with a 12-student crew will take audiences on a musical journey they won’t soon forget. Don’t miss this dazzling all-singing, all-dancing tribute to some of the Best of Broadway. Call (516) 255-8925 for tickets and information.
