Italian singer Giada Valenti's "Tribute To Love" Show at Molloy

On Sept. 29 at 8 p.m.,Madison Theatre at Molloy College will present Italian singer and songwriter Giada Valenti who takes her audience on a romantic tour performing a selection of the most beautiful love songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Recently featured on ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS television, Giada sings and interprets hit after hit of the most famous songs from artists like the Beatles, Carpenters, Doors, Journey, Perry Como, Edit Piaf, Robert Flack, Tony Bennett, Mina, Dusty Springfield, Shirley Bassey and Bette Midler. Torah for Tots

Central Synagogue of Nassau County, a Reform congregation, will once again introduce 3 and 4-year-olds to Jewish holidays, customs, culture, play and learning with their peers, in a free program known as "Torah for Tots." No membership at Central is required. Classes begin on Sept. 30, between 9:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in Room 209 at the temple, 430 DeMott Ave. The second class meets on Oct. 14. The program, directed by Sharon Glickman, with support from Central's Sisterhood, continues once each month on Sundays, ending on May 13. Registration is under way until Sept. 28. Fortnightly Club

The Fortnightly's fall seasons kicks off on Oct. 2 with the musical duo Sweet Lorraine who will entertain with a variety of songs from several different genres. The duo will be introduced by co-chairwomen Lesia Shmorhun and Lucille Villa. The meeting and program will take place at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Methodist Church on Hempstead Avenue. Visitors are welcome.

Garden Potpourri

On Oct. 4 from 10 a.m - 2 p.m., the St. Agnes Mothers' Club will hold one of the fall season's most anticipated events. This year's Garden Potpourri will take place on the beautiful grounds of 45 South Marion Place. The community is invited to come and enjoy a fun-filled day.

Eat a wing, save a breast

On Oct. 4 at 4 p.m., Maple Pointe Assisted Living, at 260 Maple Ave., will host a “wing-off” to benefit South Nassau Communities Hospital's Breast Center. For a $10 donation at the door, visitors are invited to vote for their favorite chef. The competition will include entries from Rockville Centre’s McFadden’s, MacArthur Park, Monaghan’s, Chadwicks at the Station, The Dark Horse Tavern and Maple Pointe, as well as Jackie Reilly’s of Bethpage. Casino Night at Temple B'nai Sholom-Beth David

On Oct. 6, Congregation B’nai Sholom-Beth David will honor Rockville Centre Trustee Michael Sepe and long-time congregant Nanci Moskowitz at its third annual Casino Night. In addition to honoring these two extraordinary individuals, the evening will feature various gaming tables, refreshments, an open bar and plenty of raffles. Nassau Woman's Club

Meet the Candidates

The RVC Democratic Club will host a Meet the Candidates Night on Oct. 10, at the Sandel Center, 50 S. Park Ave., from 7:15 to 9:30 p.m. Invited guests include a representative from the Obama campaign; Carolyn McCarthy, incumbent Congresswoman; Earlene Hooper, incumbent NYS Assemblywoman; Jeff Friedman, candidate for the NYS Assembly; Tom Feffer, candidate for the NYS Senate; Ryan Cronin, candidate for the NYS Senate and candidates for Supreme, County and District courts. Rosa Lee Young Childhood Center’s Annual House Tour

A Taste of Elegance

On Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in the St. Agnes Cathedral Parish Hall, the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce will host A Taste of Elegance, featuring sample signature dishes from Rockville Centre’s restaurants, music by Ace, wine tasting and raffles and more. Tickets are $30 per person if purchased by Oct. 1 and $35 at the door. Reserved tables of 10, which must be paid for by Oct. 1, are $270. Caring for Carly

Members of the community are invited to an Oct. 14 fundraiser, co-sponsored by Exit Links Realty and CJ's Coffee Shop, at 75 Seaman Ave. for 8-year-old Carly, a Watson 3rd grader who has been diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM). The event, whose proceeds will go directly to Carly's family, will run from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m and will include a bouncy house, petting zoo, face painting, raffles, cotton candy and live music. "Unorthodox" Author Breakfast

RSVP by Oct. 1 for "Unorthodox," an author/breakfast featuring Deborah Feldman who wrote a compelling personal story about leaving the Satmar Orthodox community of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The Oct. 14 event, open to the public, is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. and is jointly sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women's South Shore Section, Central Synagogue and Congregation B'nai Sholom-Beth David. Fortnightly Club

On Oct. 16, the Fortnightly Club's art chairwoman, Rosanna Clavin, will introduce the day's program, "The Art of Going Green," presented by the Town of Hempstead. The meeting and program will begin at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Methodist Church on Hempstead Avenue. Visitors are welcome.

Hispanic Brotherhood/Do Good Shopping Event

The Hispanic Brotherhood is involved with Lord & Taylor's Do Good Shopping Event to raise funds and to save shoppers money. The tickets cost $5 each and with that comes a variety of coupons to be used at the Garden City store location on Oct. 30. Included in the coupons are two 25 percent off coupons and a 15 percent off coupon (included in that is cosmetics and fragrances). Additionally, a Lord & Taylor credit card is used, shoppers get an extra 10 percent off. There also are prizes given out throughout the store.

Congregation B'nai Sholom-Beth David presents another entry in the Irwin Ralph Memorial 92 Street Y Live Fall 2012 program on Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. Friedman, one of the most influential columnists, analyzes current challenges — globalization, the information technology revolution, the nation's chronic deficits and its pattern of energy consumption — and spells out what we need to do now to rediscover America and rise to the moment. Bowling for Breasts

Maple Pointe is sponsoring a breast cancer fundraiser at Rockville Centre Lanes, 100 Maple Ave. on Oct. 24 from 1-4 p.m. for teams of five or more. Tree of Life Yoga

Central Synagogue of Nassau County, 430 DeMott Ave., is again sponsoring a Fall session, with evening classes of yoga. The classes are open to yoga students of all levels. Jewelry Design by Ellen Grossman Display Cases

When creating her one-of-a-kind pieces. Grossman selects gem stones and beads at numerous shows across the country crafted by the finest artisans in the field. Grossman, a resident of Rockville Centre has been a working artist and jewelry designer for more than 30 years. She has appeared in numerous juried art and jewelry shows, where her designs have won awards.

Halloween: Home and Away Photographs by Ellery Samuels

Lower Concourse Gallery

The photography of Ellery Samuels will be on display on the Lower Concourse in October. Samuels, a Rockville Centre resident of more than 20 years, has been shooting images since he received his first camera, a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye, at the age of five! A New York City special education teacher for thirty-seven years, he has also taught photography to student in the New York City Public Schools. He has exhibited in group and individual shows across Long Island. The exhibit features black and white images of Halloween decorations taken in Rockville Centre and of Day of the Dead decorations in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

RVC Youth Council’s Substance Abuse Awareness Campaign

Students and community members came together to create mannequins dedicated to the memory of talented artists, writers and performers whose lives ended too soon due to substance abuse. The result was this

Fishing Clinic

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the RVC Recreation Department present the annual freshwater fishing clinic at Hempstead Lake State Park on Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are exhibits, contests, and prizes. The fee is $6 per person for anyone 12 or older. Take the first left inside Hempstead Lake State Park from the Peninsula Boulevard entrance. Call (516) 766-1029 for more information.

Mural Painting Contest

Boys and girls in grades 4 through 8 must register by Oct. 16 at the Recreation Center for the annual contest on Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. The Halloween artists are invited to paint on paper that is taped to the lobby and auditorium walls of the Recreation Center, 111 North Oceanside Road. Plaques are awarded by a distinguished panel of judges.

Free Special Ed play days for pre-schoolers and up will be held once a month beginning Oct. 21 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Pre-register by emailing mplawless@verizon.net.

Ragamuffin Parade and Party

Rockville Centre's 22nd annual Halloween Costume Parade and Party are Oct. 28. Youngsters pre-K and up, their parents and families are invited to join the parade which starts from the Village Green, Maple and Lee avenues, at 2 p.m. and proceeds down Maple to the Rec Center. There will be games, fun, and prizes for the costumed marchers at the center. Everyone must register for the parade and /or party at the Rec Center for $8 per family. In case of rain, the parade is canceled, but the party will begin at 3 p.m. at the Recreation Center.

Goblin Calls

Fill out a Goblin Slip at the party after the Ragamuffin Parade and you may receive a Goblin Call and a Goblin Prize on Halloween evening, Oct. 31.

Operation Christmas Child

The Rec Center is collecting school supplies, toiletries and small games for distribution to needy children.

Bring your donations, in their original packaging, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by early November.

Food Donations Needed

The Rec Center is accepting donations of canned and dry goods as well as frozen turkeys or turkey coupons for distribution to the needy in our community. Bring your donations Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. before Thanksgiving.

Open Gym Program

The main gymnasium of the Rec Center will be open for free play basketball for grades 4 and up on Saturday afternoons from 2 to 4:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 29. The evening open gym for grades 6 and up will begin Oct. 5 and Oct. 6 from 7:30 to 10:15 p.m. Admission is by valid 2012-2013 Recreation Card.

Register for 10K, 5K Races, Family Fun Run

Runners wishing to enter Rockville Centre's annual running events on Nov. 10, sponsored in conjunction with the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce should call (516) 678-9339 for an application or register online at www.Active.com. The one-mile Family Fun Run begins at 9 a.m. on Front Street in front of the LIRR station. The 10K and 5K races begin at 10 a.m. on Park Avenue in front of the Fantasy Theater.

Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. “Better Home House Calls” – a new local service that provides physicians for medical appointments in the comfort of your own home. This program is presented by Pat Huber, CEO of the agency.
