Rockville Links has been selected to host a qualifier event for the 57th IKE amateur golf tournament on May 21. The IKE is one of the metropolitan area’s most prestigious amateur events. Past IKE champions include numerous PGA tour pros. Rockville Centre’s own PGA tour pro Marc Turnesa was the runner up in 2000.
“We are proud of the improvements we have made to our facility and golf course and it is our pleasure to host the IKE qualifier,” said Rockville Links Club President Chris Heckman. “This is not the only tournament being played at The Links, The Long Island Golf Association has selected this home-town course to host their Mid-Amateur tournament in August.”
Rockville Links has begun a restoration process to transform its golf course to the original classic 1923 design. “Rockville was originally designed by Devereux Emmet, one of the most well respected and well known golf course architects of the early 1900s. Emmet designed over 100 clubs, including The Garden City Golf Club, Rockaway Hunting Club and Congressional Golf Club, which hosted the 2011 US Open,” said Rockville Links Club’s Golf Chairman Steve Smith.
