Rockville Centre homemakers showcase achievements

Posted

Members of Rockville Centre’s Homemakers Club gathered on May 22 for their annual Achievement Day, and celebrated their 50th year of weekly meetings at the Recreation Center and 90 years as a chapter of the Homemakers Organization.

A non-profit organization that helps local groups, Homemakers in the village have assisted food pantries and victims of domestic abuse. They have crocheted hats for premies in local hospitals, shawls and lap robes for cancer patients, and help veterans by collecting manufacturers’ coupons. This year they collected nearly $75,000 of coupons that have been donated to veterans’ families.

This group of talented women meet each Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. (when school is in session) to pass their knowledge of cooking, sewing, knitting and additional crafts to other members. The talents and experience that these women possess and are willing to impart, make for an excellent opportunity for all generations to share.

Joseph Scarola of Rockville Centre’s American Legion Post 303 and members of its Women’s Auxiliary joined in the May 22 festivities, and received socks that the Homemakers rolled and tagged with good wishes for veterans, which Scarola will bring to the V.A. Hospital in Northport.
