Lisa Gundersen, the proprietor of PolkaDot Pound Cake, right, and John Gallagher, of South Shore Pretzel Co., joined other Long Island entrepreneurs for the debut of the “Made on Long Island Market” at Crossroads Farm at Grossmann’s in Malverne.
The farm, the last one in southwestern Nassau County, is operated by the Nassau Land Trust, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, under a long-term lease from Nassau County, which purchased the land, farmed by the Grossman family for more than 105 years, with funds from the 2006 Environmental Bond Act.
In 2011, the farm produced 42 varieties of organically-certified crops. In addition to selling its own produce, it sells products from other Long Island farms and donates food to local food banks serving Nassau County’s needy residents.
