Rockville Centre bars and restaurants, in conjunction with the St. Patrick’s Parade Committee, will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most people dressed as Santa’s elves in a single location on Sunday, Dec. 16.
According to Niall Gunn, owner of Monaghan’s, everyone who signs in for the world record will also give a donation collected from sponsors. The money raised for the event will be donated to The Jillian E. Daly Foundation, the ALS Association of New York, the Rockville Centre Community Fund and Crosscare, a social care agency located in Dublin.
The town of Nenagh in Tipperary, Ireland, currently holds the record, with 936 elves gathered in 2011.
Those interested can register with Gunn by calling (516) 318-5948. At 2 p.m. on the day of the event, the elves can gather at Monaghan’s, Blackthorn, MacArthur Park, RJ Daniels or Kaseys, and at 3 p.m. all the elves will meet in the St. Agnes parking lot.
The Jerry & the Newcomers band will perform during the event and a $15 buffet will be available for adults and free chicken fingers and fries for children under 12.
Sean O’Rourke, a village resident and businessman, has said that he will match the money raised for the event, up to $20,000.
