Burns family in portrait art exhibit
Local artists Kathy and her daughters Colleen and Keely Burns will participate in a contemporary realist exhibit, “Viewpoints – Art of the Portrait” with artists who have been inspired by master pastelist Dan Slapo, at the Shelter Rock Library through June 26. The works are in oil, acrylic and pastel. Although they work from the same models, each artist has a different technique.
Kathy Burns is an artist living in South Hempstead, not far from where she graduated from Oceanside High School in 1980. She then graduated from Molloy College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and is now in the process of getting her Masters in Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University online and is scheduled to graduate next June. Kathy's specialty is portraits in oils and pastels, although she works in all mediums.
Colleen Burns graduated from South Side High School in 2009. She is attending the Academy of Art University in the undergraduate program for a Bachelor of Fine Arts and enjoys working in charcoal, oils and pastels. Her favorite subject is animals, especially horses.
Keely Burns is a student at South Side High School who enjoys art.
The artists will be available during a “Meet the Artist” reception on May 6 in the library’s gallery, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. The public is invited to this free event and can commission portraits from the artists.
The Shelter Rock Library is located at 165 Searingtown Road, Albertson. For further information, contact Suzie Alvey at (516) 326-1720 or suziealvey@gmail.com.
